Red Steakhouse & Bar, Bermuda
$$$, Steakhouse
Update: Red Steakhouse has closed down.
Finally 2 years after Greg's Steakhouse closed down, there is once again a proper steakhouse in Hamilton City, in fact in the whole of Bermuda. Red Steakhouse & Bar opened in November 2012 as an upscale steakhouse prominently located on Front street and overlooking the street and the harbor. Two long time islanders David Madeiros and Rick Olson with rich experience in hospitality sector opened this restaurant and bar to offer the finest certified Angus beef cuts and seafood in an elegant ambiance that reflects both old world and modern charm.
So they engaged internationally reputed architect Jason Jones to do the interiors. And he did a superb job. There is a space for DJ for playing the music. Wi-fi too is available. While the inside dining room is great, if there is no rain, sitting outside on the patio is a great experience as well. You can get lovely view of the busy Front Street below and the harbor beyond.

While steak cuts like t-bone, cowboy, fillet mignon, ribeye, strip loin etc are the signature dishes here (after all it's a steakhouse), they also make nice seafood. You can start with a soup - go for the traditional Bermuda fish chowder which is served with a dash of black rum and sherry pepper.
If hot soup is not your stuff, there are other choices as well. They make nice salads too - Caesar salad is good and so is the organic spinach salad. If salad is all what you would like to stay with, you can ask for salad additions in chicken, shrimp, seafood or even steaks.
Some nice appetizers include braised beef short rib, cocoa crusted beef carpaccio, crispy lamb belly, pan seared scallops, mussels and chorizo, or even salmon spring roll. There are some (although limited) choices for vegetarians. They have also introduced Tapas items like Rock fish bites, beef tartar, chicken wings, grilled oysters etc.
In main courses unless you are going in for beef steaks which are definitely the main specialty of this restaurant, the other great choices include bass, rack of lamb, lobster or even catch of the day. The food is great and quite perfectly cooked. The service is quite friendly and good as well, although during high demand it can get a bit slow.
The bar here boasts of great selection of wine by the bottle. In fact they serve around 20 different wines by glass. While the main entrance of Red Steakhouse is from Front Street, there is another back entrance from Reid street which is wheelchair accessible. However signage is a problem (Reid Street entrance has no signage at all).
Reservation is recommended. Dress code is smart casual. They accept credit cards.
