Horizons and Cottages by end of February, 2011 as the hotel is going through a major redevelopment. The owner Angelo Buglione has opened his new restaurant on Reid Street, Hamilton and named it
Angelo's Bistro. It's a small cafe with inside and outside patio seating.
Splendido is a renovated restaurant at the Horizons Cottages located at Paget parish in Bermuda. If you are looking for a romantic dinner with a perfect setting, Splendido can be just splendid. The restaurant is perched on the hill top and overlooking the south shore. It is in a building which is one of the old farm houses spread across 30 acres of land and terraced garden.
There is an inside dining and a terrace having a lovely view of the ocean. The dining room with its coral bell wall colors, fireplaces and wooden tray ceilings reflects the traditional Bermuda architecture.
The owner and general manager Angelo Buglione has been a chef in Bermuda over two decades having worked in various restaurants. Finally he gets to have his own bar and restaurant where he tries to bring together all the warmth and delicacies of the island. I was particularly impressed with the service and the polish which the waiters interacted with us.
The menu, although primarily based on Bermudian cuisine, has a touch of Mediterranean flavor as well. For starters, try out some of Splendido fish chowder, Caeser salad or the Lobster and Shrimp salad with butternut squash, fresh herbs and Parmesan cheese.
In main courses, some of the house specialties include handmade ravioli with spinach and ricotta cheese, brown butter and toasted almonds, Reggianoshavings, and Lobster BLT with apple wood smoked bacon, toasted brioche, shallots basil aioli. Well there are many other great dishes like the pan seared rockfish, codfish cakes and fish sandwiches.
For dessert, ginger and vanilla bean crème brulee, or the homemade icecreams and sorbets are excellent. The bar has a good selection of wine.
Open Hours
Open daily for lunch and dinner. Drinks are served on the bar terrace from 5pm.
