North Rock Brewing Company Bermuda
$$, Bermudian
North Rock Brewing Company has been the first and the only brewpub in Bermuda until few years back. It is still a pub though, but they have moved the brewing operations to the Dockyard area in Sandy’s parish. You still get handmade fresh beer here as they keep bringing them in barrels from the dockyard frequently. Earlier until 2006, you could see the large kettles and tanks right behind the main bar area where beer would be freshly brewed and served at the bar in front.
Due to growing storage problems, the brewing equipment have now been shifted to the dockyard area where the brewing operation is carried out in a joint venture with
Frog and Onion Pub and under the name of
Dockyard Brewing Company.
North Rock Brewing Company Bermuda
North Rock Brewing Company is owned by David and Heather Littlejohn who wanted to open up an English style pub with its own brewery. Even today, you will get five different types of handcrafted beer in the pub, and they are known as "Whale of a Wheat", "St David’s Light", "Somers’s Amber Ale", "Trunk Island Pale Ale" and "North Rock Porter".
Update 2020: There are new owners to the restaurant now and a new menu. They boast of the Pizzas... portions are good. You won't get locally crafted beer any more. However, try out their homemade ice creams... delicious.
The Somers Amber Ale is our favorite here. It's a copper color beer named after Bermuda’s founder father Sir George Somers. It tastes like a traditional English Bitter.
There are three different seating areas in the restaurant. You can sit in the main stylish bar area having handcrafted mahogany finish. This is where many patrons end up completing their dinner. There is also a casual but upscale looking non-smoking dining area. If you like fresh breeze while dining, there is an open patio as well.
While North Rock is a British style pub, it serves lot more than just English pub fares. Emphasis is mostly on seafood and the dishes here has some unique flair.
For appetizers, some of the favorites here are the Bermuda fish chowder, baked goat cheese and honey parcel, or baby back ribs. Some of the great entrée selections include filet mignon, roasted rack of lamb, Salmon or Rockfish with lemon butter sauce. Codfish cakes and prime ribs are also prepared very well.
If you are looking for pub grubs then some of the good choices would be steak and ale pie, fish and chips or toad in the hole. For lunch you get dishes like grilled sirloin of beef, Pork Sandwich, hamburgers, fish and chips and such.
Fridays between 4-7pm is happy hours when drinks are served at discounted rates.
They accept credit cards. Although reservations are not required, I would recommend making reservation for dinner, particularly on the weekends.
Dress code is smart casual.

North Rock Brewing Company is located 10 minutes east of Hamilton City at the junction of South Road and Collectors Hill. It’s a convenient place for taking your meals or enjoying a drink if you are going towards the eastern side of Bermuda like St George or the Crystal Caves.
Bus Routes: #1, #3 (the buses operate between Hamilton and St George). The pub is at a short walking distance from the bus stop. But easiest would be to take a taxi from Hamilton.
