64 Degrees Restaurant
Port Royal Golf Club Bermuda
$$, Steaks and Seafood
X BUSINESS CLOSED
Port Royal Golf Club with its mega PGA Grand Slam event, now has another feather on its cap. A new restaurant called
64 Degrees has opened up in the Port Royal club and owned by the Fresco Group owner, Claudio Vigilante.
Vigilante who also runs the
Fresco's,
Silk, Opus and
Aqua faced fierce competition from the other bidders. His main attraction towards opening up such a restaurant in the Port Royal Golf Club has been the location with its sweeping view of the golf course and the ocean beyond.
The name 64 degrees comes from the geographical location of the restaurant which is at 64 degrees longitude. As the name starts with a number, Vigilante also knows that his restaurant will always be on top of any directory list or yellow pages. The restaurant caters to golfers, locals and tourists. It has 120 inside and 100 outside seating, a full bar both inside and outside.
Troy Smith, vastly experienced in Caribbean and South American cuisine and having worked in Richard Branson's exclusive resort at Necker Island in the British Virgin, has been appointed as the Chef at 64 degrees. The main focus of the food at present is on Steaks and Fish. They do plan to add a lot more variations in near future.
For lunch, there are choices that range from salads like arugula with vanilla poached pear, blue cheese and caramelized pecans; steak sandwiches with tempura onion rings; and main courses that includes pan-fried red snapper with sweet potato puree and basil marscapone.
Dinner menu includes starters like chorizo stuffed scallops or spiced quail with parma ham. Some of the best main courses here are the nut crusted tuna loin or steaks like the Beef and Reef, a beef tenderloin served with sweet Caribbean lobster tail.
Reservations can be made for functions, including weddings and corporate events.
Update Mar 16, 2012: The current owner Andrea Dismont has decided to close down 64 degrees as the operation is no longer financially viable. In fact the announcement for closure has come quite abruptly leading to even cancellation of wedding receptions.
Open Hours
The restaurant serves food until 10 p.m., seven days a week, except Christmas Day.
The bar opens at 11 a.m.
